Mobility, Flexibility and Brain Cells for the Win
I thought I would share something that is changing my life for the better and is giving me fast result. Mobility, flexibility and brain cells are all connected to being pain-free, reprogramming our neurological system as well as living active and fun-filled lives. Intrigued? Read on but first in full transparency, I am an affiliate for this program. I didn’t become an affiliate until well after I started seeing fast results and feeling great. However, I do get a sign-up bonus for everyone who uses my link but I am giving part of it back to the community through my Community Supported Health Care program. This is what I want for you too so that is why I am sharing this here.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Many of you know that I like to dance. Last month I attended a dance that offered a class on “mobility” beforehand. I thought that is sounded interesting and although I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, I thought, “OK, I’m up to try something new.” This class was inspiring and super fun. My friend Grisel and while I kept catching ourselves giggling as we learned different ways to move our body, I immediately saw the value in what we were learning.
The instructor, David Gallina who happens to have a background in medical and neurology medicine and is a certified Mobility Specialist, has presented work at Harvard Medical School, Bastyr University, and the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation, spoke about and demonstrated how mobility, flexibility and brain cells help to reprogram our nervous system, which helps us break old patterns/postures and develop new and healthier ways. This is something I speak to my clients about a lot (sound familiar?). One we interrupt the messages that we no longer want our body to have, and introduce new ones, we are more able to enjoy a pain-free and active lifestyle. Doesn’t that sound great? Btw, David was clear and well spoken in his messages and made the class accessible to people of different abilities and was fun. You don;t have to be an elite athlete to join in. You can be a mom in her mid-fifties who wants to be able to dance and play as long as she can as she ages.
ONLINE COURSE AND MORE
This one hour class inspired me to learn more so when he mentioned an online course, I immediately signed up with The Mobility Project. People who know me know that I often say, “Do something your future self will thank you for”. Well, this is something I actually practice and don’t just talk about. When I first signed up, I did some “baseline” photos and immediately began doing the program. My goal was to feel great in my body so I could do more of the things I enjoy–I love hiking, dancing and sleeping but I was sometimes in too much pain to enjoy them.
I am starting my fourth week (I can hardly believe that much time has gone by) and I have significantly increased the amount I can bend over to touch my toes. In my baseline photo, I could touch my toes with my fingers. After four-weeks, I can touch my elbow to my upwardly pointed toe as I bend over. This is a big improvement in my flexibility which has in turn helped me sleep better and play better! There is a real sense of camaraderie among the participants, even though it is online (there are in-person opportunities too). David is based out of Seattle and is often found around the Seattle Bouldering Project and Om Culture. This truly is fun.
YOU DONT NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT
While an elastic band is helpful, it isn;t necessary. In fact, I haven’t bought any equipment for this program at all! It saves me money and space in my home.
I am so happy and excited to share the Mobility Project with you. Please check it out so you have the opportunity to participate and feel great too.
