Description
Benefits of Massage for Back:
- Decreased pain
- Improved sleep
- Increased relaxation
- Decrease anxiety/depression associated with low back pain
Back pain can be disabling. Eighty percent of Americans experience one form of pain in their back during the course of their lives. Back pain is the third most common reason for surgery.
The spine is an incredibly complex structure of bones, muscles, nerves, joints, tendons, and ligaments. Injury or disease affecting any one or more of these structures can often trigger an episode of pain.
Lower back pain: is often caused by a muscle strain. The pain can be anywhere in the back from the low back to the base of the neck. Massage is proven to give relief to muscles that become inflamed and spasm. In more serious cases, the pain caused by a degenerative condition, such as arthritis, disc disease, or disc herniation can be relieved and preventative support can be given through massage therapy. Many physicians recommend that their patient incorporate massage therapy into their recovery and maintenance programs.
Upper back pain: while less common than lower back pain, is on the rise due to the type of work and commuting that people are exposed to. Computer work, gaming and driving for long periods of time all cause pain in the mid-back between the shoulders as well as referred pain that radiates down the arms.
Going without care can result in the muscles of the lower back becoming atrophied and can significant weakness, leaving you open to further undue pain and injury.

“Marilene is fabulous! Strong hands a great use of energy and releasing tension. Limp in, leap out really applies. Oh – and her advice of simply eating bitter herbs for my digestive issues changed my life. One small thing and it’s like being human again. Highly recommended!” Christopher Bingham

” Very relaxing. You made me feel very comfortable and took the time to ask how things were going throughout the massage. I was able to follow the what you were doing and ask you to work on specific areas.” Greta M.

As an esthetitian I used Marilene’s skin products and loved them. When I heard she was now doing massage as well I just had to get in to see her. I don’t really have any pain but I really needed to relax. The room is well decorated, with a welcoming of warmth and comfort. I like that she uses an infra red heater it helped to penetrate deeper in my muscles relaxing me before the massage even started.
The massage was great. Marilene was very attentive to specific areas like my neck and shoulders smoothing out the tension I carry there. By the time Marilene was done I didn’t want to get up or leave the room. I could have stayed a few more hours just relaxing. I’m so glad I went to see her. I knew she would be outstanding and pay attention to my needs. I would recommend Marilene. Toni Fenley

I like deep tissue massage and that is exactly what Marilene provided. She was very good about communication making sure the pressure was right. She instinctively knew the areas that need the most work. She also used cupping on me helping to pull the muscles up and deeper for harder to get to areas. I’m now seeing her on a regular basis. I’ve already started to feel the improvement. I will be telling my friends how great she is. Keiko Chapin

Marilene does great work! I came In with a lower back injury and in just 3 weeks I’ve seen marked improvements. Very warm and professional environment. She is highly invested in her clients and that is reflected in the quality of work she does.

I started seeing Marilene during my first pregnancy. I have chronic hip issues that were only getting worse with the added weight and structural changes that happen during pregnancy. After just a few sessions with Marilene, I started having less and less pain and was more mobile. My chiropractor even noticed a huge difference and asked for Marilene’s contact information so he could refer more of his clients. Marilene’s little studio is peaceful and comfortable, and she is a wonderfully sweet person who really cares about her clients. I can’t wait to go back after baby is born for more massages!
